The name of our club is "Man Up!" and the mission is to teach our male students lessons in self-improvement, empowerment, responsibility, and cultural awareness. The club meets with all members on a weekly basis, teaching students lessons that will make them marketable in today's society.
Man Up club offers a great opportunity for our students to gain a sense of awareness of the nuances that African-American males face on a daily basis. Another goal is to close the achievement gap that clearly shows how this class of students is consistently behind their peers.
Likely topics will include, but not limited to the following: responsibility, criminal consequences, effects of drugs and gangs in our community, career-education, fashion, etiquette, and the importance of family. We are currently scheduling professional guest speakers to come in and add their expertise to our learning as well.
Our first meeting was scheduled for Friday, September 26th at 7:30 in room 168. Breakfast will be served every Friday. We ask parents to encourage their son to come with an enthusiasm to learn and show up on time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Below is the contact information for Roosevelt Johnson. He will be following up with parents throughout the year to share feedback on how their son is doing.
We will be meeting every Friday morning at 7:45 in room 168.
